The Castlemaine Library is a vibrant and community-focused library service and acts as inclusive hub for learning, connection and cultural engagement.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and community-focused Library Manager to lead operations at the Castlemaine Library.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the branch, leading staff, delivering high-quality services and ensuring strong engagement with the local community. You will also contribute to broader organisational initiatives as part of our wider library network.

What you will do

  • Lead branch operations, ensuring a welcoming, safe and high-performing environment
  • Coach and support staff performance, capability development and service culture
  • Plan and deliver engaging programs (e.g. early years, lifelong learning, events, outreach)
  • Manage branch resources: collections, technology, spaces and daily workflows
  • Monitor service outcomes and contribute to reporting and continuous improvement
  • Work collaboratively with the Regional Manager and peers across the Corporation
  • Build strong relationships with local stakeholders, community groups and council representatives
  • Contribute to organisation-wide initiatives, projects and service improvements

What You Will Bring

  • Proven experience leading teams in a library, community service, customer experience or similar environment
  • Strong operational skills: planning, prioritising, problem-solving and improving services
  • Confidence delivering community-focused outcomes and building local partnerships
  • Understanding of contemporary library services including digital access and inclusion
  • Excellent communication and a genuine “people-first” approach
  • Ability to work within a broader organisational structure while leading a local branch
  • A relevant qualification in Library and Information Services or other appropriate qualification or equivalent experience
