Be Connected: Helping older Australians thrive in a digital world be connected

About Be Connected

Be Connected is an Australian Government initiative committed to increasing the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians. Be Connected aims to empower everyone to use the internet and everyday technology to thrive in our digital world.

Through the Be Connected online resources, Australians will be able to learn the basics of using digital devices and engaging with the internet, including:

  • talking to and seeing family and friends
  • keeping up to date with news and what’s happening around the world
  • being safer while online
  • finding new friends who share interests and hobbies
  • connecting with old friends
  • shopping and selling online, safely and securely

This fantastic portal provides free interactive learning activities, training courses, web apps and how-to videos. Goldfields Libraries is registered as a Be Connected network partner.

More information about the Be Connected program can be found on their website: https://beconnected.esafety.gov.au/

Digital devices for loan

We're excited to announce that we now have a number of internet-connected devices (Samsung Galaxy tablets) available for a free 3-month loan.

Our aim is to reach out to socially isolated and disadvantaged Australians over 50 who are currently not connected to the internet at home. We want to empower recipients with digital skills and improve their connection to the community during this challenging time. We'll help you get started, and our trained Digital Mentors are always on hand for ongoing support and advice.

If you, a family member, or friend aged 50 would benefit from the loan of a device, we would love to hear from you. Let us know how learning to use a device and connecting to the internet would make a difference.

Please email us, or give us a call on 5449 2700.

The next loan period is from 7 December 2020 until 26 February 2021.
