Goldfields Libraries is set to kick off this year’s Bendigo Writers Festival with three free satellite sessions, giving local audiences a head start on the festival in Heathcote, Kangaroo Flat and Elmore.
Held on 14 and 15 August, these special events feature two acclaimed voices in the literary and culinary worlds, with engaging conversations in relaxed, local spaces.
At Heathcote and Kangaroo Flat libraries, author Lucy Sussex delves in to the world of crime discussing her new book Outrageous Fortunes, co-authored with Megan Brown. Outrageous Fortunes tells the fascinating true story of Mary Fortune, crime writer and her criminal son, George. This ultimate crime fiction meets true crime story, uncovers how Mary built her name as a crime fiction writer while her son led a life of crime, with convictions for theft and bank robbery.
Audiences at Elmore Library Agency will be treated to a conversation with chef and restaurateur Helly Raichura, who will share stories from her book Bhartiya Bhojan, a rich exploration of India’s history through cuisine. In conversation with Jennifer Alden, Helly will reflect on her love of Indian food and the stories, traditions and cultural identity it carries.
Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Libraries Programs and Events Coordinator, said the sessions are part of the library’s commitment to bringing inspiring, high-quality programs to regional communities.
“We are delighted to partner with the City of Greater Bendigo to bring a taste of Bendigo Writers Festival to our local communities,” she said. “We really encourage you to come along and enjoy this special experience. What could be better – intimate conversations, big ideas and brilliant authors, right on your doorstep!”
