Stuart Kells: The Magic of Books and Libraries

Wednesday 6 September 2017

Any regular library visitor knows that there is something special about books, libraries and reading, but author Stuart Kells has taken this concept to the next level. An authority on rare books, Stuart will visit Bendigo and Castlemaine Libraries to share insights into his latest book The Library: A Catalogue of Wonders.

One of Australia’s most passionate and knowledgeable bibliophiles, Stuart has dedicated his life to the study of precious and rare books, travelling the world to undertake his extensive research. The Library: A Catalogue of Wonders, published by Text Publishing, explores some of the world’s most beloved libraries, including the Bodleian, the Folger and the Smithsonian.

“This is an event not to be missed by book lovers, who will be fascinated with Stuart’s wealth of knowledge about rare and precious books, and his insights into ‘the magic of the library’,” said Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Library Corporation Programs and Events Coordinator.

A Melbourne based author, Stuart’s 2015 book, Penguin and the Lane Brothers, won the Ashurst Business Literature Prize. His next book will be about Shakespeare’s library, and is due for release in 2018.
