Joining a Book Club might be your best new year’s resolution yet!

Tuesday 24 January 2017

Love reading and participating in interesting discussions with like-minded people? Joining a book club might be just the thing for your new year’s resolution list!

“Book clubs are a great way to meet new people or have fun with a group of friends, and January is a great time to start things!” said Sue Mooney, Goldfields Library Corporation Acting Programs and Events Coordinator.

Goldfields Libraries offers a free book club program for groups, giving access to a growing list of over 270 different book titles in sets of 10, handpicked especially for their suitability for group discussions.

Book club sets come in a convenient bag, and can be loaned for up to six weeks, making them perfect for monthly meetings.

Groups wishing to start a book club can visit www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/bookclubs for details on the program, along with a full list of book set titles available for loan.

Individuals who would like to join a book club are encouraged to contact suem@ncgrl.vic.gov.au to be put into contact with a local group if one is available.

There are believed to be many health benefits from belonging to a book club, including mental stimulation, social interaction and the opportunity to express opinions and build confidence among a group of people with common interests.

“If you have been thinking about starting or joining a book club, we encourage you to get your friends together today and take advantage of the free services available through your local Goldfields Libraries,” said Ms Mooney.

Use of Goldfields Libraries book club resources is free. For more information visit: www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/bookclubs
