The Summer Read 2014-2015

Friday 12 December 2014

Goldfields Libraries invite you to take a break with a great Victorian book this summer

The Summer Read is on again at the Goldfields Libraries and with the warm weather already here, it’s time to sit back, relax and lose yourself in a great Victorian book.

The Summer Read is a program of the State Library of Victoria and Public Libraries Network Victoria that celebrates the diversity of Victorian writing and encourages Victorians to take time out with a good read.

The ten Summer Readbooks are great 2014 releases either written by a Victorian author, set in Victoria or about Victorians, and all are free to borrow from participating public libraries throughout the state, including the Goldfields Libraries.

Goldfields Libraries CEO, Chris Kelly says The Summer Read gives Victorians the chance to discover local authors and new books.

“Summer is the perfect time to put your feet up and dive into a great book. You don’t even have to stress about which books to pick, we’ve done the hard work so you can just read and relax.

Every book on the Summer Read list is a winner and available to borrow for free from each of our libraries” Ms Kelly says.

Readers also have the chance to win a personal library of up to 50 Victorian books by filling out an entry form at a participating public library or online at slv.vic.gov.au/summer-read.

The 2015 Summer Read books are:

  • Driving Under the Influence by Jenna Martin
  • Tree Palace by Craig Sherborne
  • Demons by Wayne Macauley
  • Warning: The Story of Cyclone Tracy by Sophie Cunningham
  • An American in Oz by Sara James
  • Cairo by Chris Womersley
  • The Feel-Good Hit of the Year: A Memoir by Liam Pieper
  • St Kilda Blues by Geoffrey McGeachin
  • What Came Before by Anna George
  • Golden Boys by Sonya Hartnett

The Summer Readruns from 1 December 2014to 15 February 2015. For books descriptions, extracts and information about The Summer Read events, visit slv.vic.gov.au/summer-read.
