Castlemaine Library to reopen

Thursday 31 October 2019

Works to refurbish the Castlemaine Library are almost complete and the upgraded library on Mechanics Lane will reopen at 10.00am on Wednesday 20 November.

A pop-up library has been located at the historic Market Building in Mostyn Street since July.

“The team is very excited to move back into the library and we can’t wait to show off the new space to the community,” said Jess Saunders, Castlemaine Library Manager.

“Our last day at the Market Building will be Tuesday 12 November. We’ll be closed for a week while we relocate our collection, set up the space and get ready for visitors,” said Jess.

“We are very reluctant to close the library for so long but we need that time to check in our collection, stock all the new shelves, set up the new computers and photocopiers and organise our new spaces.

“We’re looking forward to seeing lots of people popping in to the library on Wednesday 20 November to check out the refurbished space,” she said.

During the week-long closure borrowed books can be returned through the returns chute on the Barker Street side of the Castlemaine Library.

“We improved the book returns chute as part of the library upgrade. This means the chute will be open 24/7, so you’ll be able to drop off your books while the library is open and after hours,” said Jess.

“The community has been so supportive throughout this entire process and we really appreciate everyone’s patience,” she said.

“Don’t forget that even when the library is closed our e-library is open 24/7 at www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/elibrary. There are plenty of resources available so do pop in and ask us about it if you have any questions.”

The library upgrade is funded by Mount Alexander Shire Council and the Victorian Government 2018 Pick My Project grant, as voted by members of the community.
