Alpaca my books for the Goldfields Libraries Summer Reading Challenge

Thursday 19 December 2019

Building on the success of the Summer Reading Club of previous years, Goldfields Libraries are excited to launch the Summer Reading Challenge!

Children aged 4-12 years are invited to join in the fun of the all-new Summer Reading Challenge which boasts more fun activities, with more chances to win prizes. The Challenger Booklet includes four literacy-based challenges aiming to foster a love of reading and to help develop and build reading and writing skills in pre-school and school-aged children. The challenges are suitable for all ages and reading abilities, and children are able to make them as simple or as hard as they like.

Children who complete the Ultimate Challenge of reading 10 books will go into the draw to win great prizes whilst completing each of the Bonus Challenges gains extra entries into the prize draw. Bonus Challenges include a Word Find, Online Adventure and Creator Space. Prizes this year are all about books and Lego including a Harry Potter book set & Lego, a Treehouse series book set & Lego, a Frozen book set & Lego, an Anh Do book set & Lego and a Faraway Tree collection & Lego. There are also book vouchers to be won at all libraries and selected library agencies.

“The Challenge is all about encouraging children to read for pleasure over the long summer break”, says Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Libraries Programs and Events Coordinator. “ And for the first time, this year we are opening up the challenge to families with pre-school aged children so that young families can enjoy stories together.”

The Summer Reading Challenge runs until Friday 24 January 2020. Sign up at any Goldfields Libraries branch or at Boort, Pyramid Hill or Wedderburn Library Agencies, or download the Challenger Booklet online at https://www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/src
