Take a Break with a Great Victorian Book this Summer!

Wednesday 9 December 2015

The Summer Read is on at Goldfields Libraries and with the warm weather already here, it’s time to sit back, relax and lose yourself in a great Victorian book.

The Summer Read is a program of the State Library of Victoria and Public Libraries Network Victoria that celebrates the diversity of Victorian writing and encourages Victorians to take time out with a good read.

The ten Summer Read books are great recent releases either written by a Victorian author, set in Victoria or about Victorians, and all are free to borrow from participating public libraries throughout the state.

“The Summer Read gives Victorians the chance to discover local authors and new books,” says Goldfields Library Corporation Programs and Events Coordinator, Tammy Higgs.

“Summer is the perfect time to put your feet up and dive into a great book. You don’t even have to stress about which books to pick, we’ve done the hard work so you can just read and relax.”

“Every book on the Summer Read list is a winner and available to borrow for free from your local Goldfields Library,” says Ms Higgs.

Readers also have the chance to win a personal library of up to 50 Victorian books by filling out an entry form at a participating public library or online at www.slv.vic.gov.au/summer-read

The 2016 Summer Read books are:

  • The Unbroken Line by Alex Hammond
  • Between Us: Women of Letters curated by Michaela McGuire & Marieke Hardy
  • Certain Admissions: A Beach, a Body and a Lifetime of Secrets by Gideon Haigh
  • Hello, Beautiful! Scenes from a Life by Hannie Rayson
  • Please Don’t Leave Me Here by Tania Chandler
  • Dangerous Games by Larry Writer
  • Leap by Myfanwy Jones
  • Bad Behavious by Rebecca Starford
