Castlemaine Library reopens for business

Wednesday 18 June 2014

Castlemaine Library reopened its doors on Monday after a three day temporary closure last week.

New floors have been laid and mechanical ventilation has been installed under the floor in the northwest section of the facility.

Works will continue over the next month with painting, laying of new carpet and the reinstallation of heating to be undertaken.

Visitors may still notice the smell of the new floorboards, which in accordance with Australian Standards have been treated with a non-hazardous preservative to extend durability.

Staff are taking extra steps to ensure the area is well ventilated for staff and patrons, keeping odours to a manageable level.

The non-fiction section is expected to re-open towards the end of July. Other library services continue to run and patrons can ask for non-fiction items to be brought from other branches of the Goldfields Library Corporation.

Council recognises that the library is an important community resource and meeting place, and is working with the Goldfields Library Corporation to minimise the impact on library services while necessary maintenance and repair works are completed on the heritage listed building.

Council and Goldfields Library Corporation apologise for any inconvenience.
