Chinese New Year to go off with a bang at Goldfields Libraries!

Friday 20 January 2017

The Chinese New Year of the Rooster will go off with a bang at Bendigo Library on Tuesday 31 January!

In classic Bendigo style, the Central Victorian Lion Team and the Fu Wa Team will delight with a noisy and spectacular traditional welcome inside the library. The performance is from 5.30-6pm and is not to be missed!

“We are very excited to welcome the Lion and Fu Wa Teams back to the library, they are a real crowd pleaser!” said Sue Mooney, Goldfields Library Corporation Acting Programs and Events Coordinator.

Visitors are also invited to Bendigo and Castlemaine Libraries to join in relaxing Tai Chi sessions with charismatic Tai Chi instructor Raymond Lee, Wushu / Tai Chi (5th DUAN).

The Bendigo session will be held in the Bendigo Library Gardens on Monday 30 January, from 6-6.45pm.

The Castlemaine session will be held in the Castlemaine Library Foyer on Friday 27 January, from 5-5.45pm

All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate, from Tai Chi beginners through to seasoned Tai Chi practitioners.

“Last year’s outdoor Tai Chi session at Bendigo Library received such a great response from the public,” said Ms Mooney.

“Although we had quite a large group, Raymond Lee created a wonderful atmosphere for the crowd. We are delighted to welcome him back to Bendigo again this year, and to be able to offer the Castlemaine community the same opportunity,” said Ms Mooney.

Tai Chi is a martial art, widely practiced as a gentle form of exercise focused on balancing the mind and body. It is believed to offer many health benefits and has been used by the Chinese since ancient times.

All events are free, and bookings are not required. For more information visit the Goldfields Libraries website: www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au
